Our popular Holiday Décor Contest is back for a fourth year and we will continue to recognize First Place, Second Place, and Third Place winners. This season we will add two additional Honorable Mention winners due to the increasing participation. Shea Crossing Holiday Décor Recognition Signs will be planted in the winners yards the night of December 23rd. Now is the time to let your creativity flow and glow; exterior lighting, yard displays, and color configurations that dazzle. Your yard can contribute to the joy spread across our neighborhood for all to see. Visit FRONTSTEPS for details.
In 2024 this program continues to be a very popular way to promote individual resident yard improvements and enhanced curb appeal. We value our residents who invest the time and effort to establish and maintain their yards and landscape year round. We all know the condition of one yard in our neighborhood can have either a positive or a negative impact. Therefore, we celebrate and congratulate our 2024 YOM winners, who show us all the way as they are directly responsible for the Shea Crossing image. These winning properties could easily compete with the best throughout the city of Collierville and the Midsouth. We invite residents to visit our protected site, FRONTSTEPS, for more details on the 2024 winners.
The annual Shea Crossing Block Party has become a cherished tradition. We had another great success in June 2024. This event provided another opportunity for neighbors to gather for an afternoon of fun, music, good food, and family-oriented festivities. We appreciate the Social Committee volunteers for again making this event possible, and we invite residents to share their ideas for the upcoming 2025 Block Party. Stay up-to-date with the latest community events on FRONTSTEPS.
As everyone can see the traffic light installation started earlier this year has stopped! The city has told us the “master control panel” needed to complete the project is on backorder and is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2025. When that occurs, the construction will resume. This traffic light has been a long effort of this Board. We have been pushing the city for three years. The dangerous Winchester and Shea intersection must be fixed before someone gets hurt. As we await completion we remind residents to be patient when entering that uncontrolled intersection. Please be sure to use your signal indicators and wait as long as necessary to enter it safely because cars are converging from all directions. We advise all to not risk an accident by moving until you see all lanes are safe. Remember that you can also use the Shea Road and Houston Levee intersection especially during the morning and evening rush hours. We hope to have the traffic light up and functional this spring. Go to the 2024 SUMMER FALL BRIEFS tab for more details.
The HOA Board has engaged legal advisors to assist in the modernizing of our Covenants & Bylaws that were written fifteen years ago for a developer-based HOA. The Shea Crossing HOA was taken over by the residents in 2021. Now is the time for us to put into place "resident-based" guiding documents. Details of this initiative are only available on our protected FRONTSTEPS site. If you are a resident of Shea Crossing and have not yet signed up, now is a good time to enroll. Go to the FRONTSTEPS tab above and proceed to the site. The enrollment process will take mere minutes.
"CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS" and "HAPPY HALLOWEEN" AT SHEA CROSSING
Many residents celebrate Diwali (The Festival of Lights on October 30 and 31) and Halloween (October 31) so the evenings on these days will be busy. Diwali entails decorating homes with candles, lamps, various light treatments, and fireworks. This is symbolic of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil.
Today many Americans celebrate Halloween (October 31 dusk to dark) every year. Its origins go back many centuries to the ancient Celts and their religious beliefs on warding off the evil spirits. Modern day it is a very popular holiday for dress-up and fun for the children--trick or treat! Long ago they would disguise themselves and light bonfires to ward of the evil spirits. Today children dress up and go door to door asking for candy with the popular saying "trick or treat." Today's Halloween celebration has very little connection to the origins of this day.
(1) Our children will be outside after dark wearing their costumes running from door to door to get candy. We must all be especially vigilant driving in the neighborhood. We must all watch out for the children who could and most likely will run into the road crossing the street. Although our speed limit is 20 mph, we recommend 10 mph or even 5 mph to be very safe this night.
(2) No or very limited use of fireworks is advised because use of fireworks is illegal within the city limits of Collierville. A few firecrackers in the street or driveway, and sparkler are popular levels of celebration and usually go unnoticed by police. However, bottle rockets, Roman candles, and bigger could expose you to a ticket with a hefty fine. The reason they are not permitted is because the risk of starting a fire (a bottle rocket lands on a roof or in shrubs). As in all matters it is important to ensure your activities respect the privacy of your neighbors, including pets.
OUR BLOCK PARTY HAPPENED ON AUGUST 24TH
Shea Crossing Block Party, now a tradition: Residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun, food, and festivities, including games and a water slide for the kids, DJ music, and an assortment of delicious foods and ice cream from local vendors.
